“Daffodil Hill”

“Daffodil Hill”

18x24” gallery wrapped stretched canvas

I had a vision for this painting as soon as I got home and looked through the photos I took that morning while walking my dog. It was around 9 or 10am and the sun was high enough coming down over this western sloping hill covered in daffodils. They were illuminated in the most interesting way, creating dramatic shadows and bright light. As I got to painting them two weeks later, I hit a wall and it just didn’t seem to be coming together as expected. You know that ugly phase paintings can go through? This one was going on for an hour and I began to doubt the whole thing. I decided to mix up my usual jazz music and was trying to decide what to play next. Out of nowhere popped the thought “Aerosmith!” It made me laugh and I changed the pandora station and sang along until it came together. In high school my best friend and I used to play Aerosmith for hours holed up in my bedroom working on our arts and crafts. She passed away almost 11 years ago, but I am certain she, Aerosmith, and fond memories helped pull this one together!
